Just to give hope (?) to the ladies out there, it does happen to us guys too — no matter how we may look assertive and self-confident.

It did happen to me, not too long ago either, I just didn’t know it had a name, I just assumed it was “a crappy manager.”

HR is most definitely *not* your friend, in most situations (if you don’t believe me, go read Susan Fowler’s account of Uber — but they’re all pretty much the same across the corporate world): the best advice I can give is just go find a better job, working for a better person.

Almost always, “gaslighters” (aka “abusive managers”) are empowered by the organization itself, and by their own managers and senior executives who tolerate, in fact, may well encourage, the toxic behavior.
